SAY HELLO
TO CLAUDIA.

184 PEOPLE ARE PROUD TO CALL HER DAUGHTER.

When you've been manager of Willamette Oaks for 18 years, an interesting thing happens. You're not just treated like family. You are family. For those who live here, Claudia is a problem-solver, confidant, cheerleader, and a smile on a rainy day. Whether she's stopping to say hello in the hallway or leading a Christmas carol from the roof (ask her about that story), she approaches life with the passion and heart that are characteristics of everyone who works here.

LIFE IN MOTION.

Janet Hollander began leading our exercise classes in 1987, when her children had reached school age and she was looking to put her studies in gerontology and fitness to use. Today, Janet's children are grown and she is a nationally recognized leader in senior fitness. You can still find her leading our classes and developing exercise programs that help our residents—and seniors across the country—stay healthy. "This is a special place," Janet says of Willamette Oaks. "Once you're part of this community, you can't imagine being anywhere else." She points to her silver locks as evidence of the time that has passed since she joined our team: "As you can see," she says with a laugh, "gray hair is contagious."

  • EVERYTHING IS
    SUCH A JOY HERE.

Bernice Homan can speak with authority about life at Willamette Oaks, because she’s made her home here for more than two decades. “There is so much to keep your mind and body active here,” the nonagenarian says. “Living here absolutely keeps us young.” Bernice counts pinochle, lecture courses, fitness classes and the people around her among her favorite things here. “Here you participate if you want to, and if you don’t, no one pressures you,” she says. “It’s the perfect balance.”

  • CONTRIBUTION
    AND CONNECTION.

Louise Carlson joined our community in 1999. Since then, she’s been an energetic and active member of our community, holding every office in our Residents’ Association. She has made meaningful social connections as well. She met her late husband, Lyle, here, and once, over coffee, discovered that she’d grown up in the same Brooklyn neighborhood as another resident.

  • LIFE IN BLOOM.

When former nursery owners and rhododendron specialists Marv and Jan Janzen joined our community in 2012, it was only natural that Marv should become our de facto head gardener. In a short time, he brought new life to our gardens. Says Marv: “One of the things we enjoy about living here is that we can continue to pursue our interests.”
