Bernice Homan can speak with authority about life at Willamette Oaks, because she’s made her home here for almost three decades. “There is so much to keep your mind and body active here,” the nonagenarian says. “Living here absolutely keeps us young.” Bernice counts pinochle, lecture courses, fitness classes and the people around her among her favorite things here. “Here you participate if you want to, and if you don’t, no one pressures you,” she says. “It’s the perfect balance.”

Louise Carlson joined our community in 1999. Since then, she’s been an energetic and active member of our community, holding every office in our Residents’ Association. She has made meaningful social connections as well. She met her late husband, Lyle, here, and once, over coffee, discovered that she’d grown up in the same Brooklyn neighborhood as another resident.
